BANERJEE MEMORIAL CUP KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENT

RULES FOR ENTRY AND PLAY - SEPTEMBER 2007 

1.   The Banerjee Memorial Cup will be played as a Ladies’, Gentlemen’s and Mixed Doubles Knockout Handicapped Tournament. Each team will consist of six players (three Ladies and three Gentlemen). Each player will play 2 doubles and 1 mixed doubles matches, each match will be best of three games to 15 points. Rankings of individual players may be changed between the Men’s/Ladies’ Doubles and the Mixed Doubles. However, the Mixed Doubles must be played in order of strength.

HANDICAPS: The handicap awarded to each team shall apply in all games played and no setting will be permitted. In the case of teams with established positions within the league structure, the handicap will normally be based on the league division in which the team plays:

Division 1-h-6Division 2+1
Division 3+5Division 4+8

The handicap may be determined by the General Committee for the first 3 seasons of a team’s participation in league competition.

In the event of the handicap for each team being the same and with the agreement of both teams the Rally Point scoring system may be used.

2.    Entries are restricted to teams currently playing in the Winchester & District Badminton Association leagues. Eligibility to represent a team in the Banerjee Cup is based on eligibility to play for that team in the Mixed League competition.

3.   The Winchester & District Badminton Association shall allow a player to "play up" only once in this tournament. However, "playing up" in this tournament shall not count against a player within the Association’s league competition. On no account will a player be allowed to play in a team lower than that to which he/she is nominated in the league competition.

4.   The first round draw shall be made in accordance with Badminton England Rules. Each subsequent round will be re-drawn, the team drawn first having home advantage. The final will be played at the Lido Sports Centre, Worthy Road, Winchester.

5.   All clubs entering the tournament will be notified of the draw and will be given a date by which each match must be played. Matches not completed by the specified date may, at the discretion of the General Committee, be decided on the toss of a coin.

6.   It is the responsibility of the Home Team to contact the Away team as soon as possible to arrange the match, advising whether feather or synthetic shuttlecocks are to be used.

7.   The winning team must send the completed score card to the Honorary League Secretary immediately following the match who will then forward the details to the Banerjee Cup Organiser.

8.   The total expenses incurred by the home team in providing hall and shuttles shall be split equally between the two teams on the night of the match.

9.   The Winchester & District Badminton Association General Committee’s decision shall be final in all matters.
